The tortoise carries heavily the achievements of mankind – creeping slowly its way through the cosmic desert.
The carapace, the back-part of the tortoise’s shell, mirrors the many facets of man’s activities, developments, and involvements. Food secured the biological existence, language bound the group and enabled tradition and learning. One register up, segments of the shell reflect the many ways of knowledge, technical developments, and sciences, faith and arts.
Indeed, there is much to carry to the new land – but as the viewer becomes more accustomed to the image, another tortoise appears in the right background, approaching in its slow pace. Followed by another one and another…
